Braves Band Booster Information The School Band Program provides an opportunity for students to play an instrument: trumpet, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, flute, oboe, French horn, baritone, trombone, or percussion.

The Braves Band Boosters support the school events by recruiting volunteers to help out at events. In addition, the Braves Band Boosters raise funds to enhance the school program by paying for items and activities such as:

  • Up to date Sheet music for all grade levels
  • Music instruments and supplies
  • Incentives, rewards, and awards
  • Scholarships for all that applied to summer band camps
  • Trills and Thrills trip for 8th Graders and other events that may occur throughout the school year
The following is a brief overview of the band program by grade level, for more details, see the handbooks listed on the sidebar:

5th Grade: Students have the opportunity to take group lessons during the school day once a week for 20 minutes and participate in band practices on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. 5th graders are required to purchase their own music books.

6th Grade: Students have the opportunity to participate in band every day during the school day and have the option of attending band sectional lessons before or after school. Students perform at three concerts during the year, and march in the Memorial Day Parade.  They may also audition for the RMS Jazz Band and the IMEA District Band Festival.

7th Grade: Students have band every day during the school day. Students perform at three concerts during the school year and march in both the Fall Festival and Memorial Day Parades. They may also audition for the RMS Jazz Band and the IMEA District Band Festival. Seventh grade band students also play for the eighth grade graduation ceremony at Hononegah High School.

8th Grade: Students have band every day during the school day. Students perform at three concerts during the school year and march in both the Fall Festival and Memorial Day Parades. They may also audition for the RMS Jazz Band and the IMEA District Band Festival. Eighth grade students also perform at CherryVale Mall during the Christmas season, perform a demonstration concert for the Kinnikinnick 4th grade students, and participate in the Trills and Thrills Music Festival at Johnsburg High School and Six Flags Great America.

The school sponsors many band events during the course of the year. Please see the handbooks for a detailed list.
